What makes me unique (just like everyone else)

  • I'm a black belt in Taekwondo.
  • I was a semi professional Counter-Strike: Source player, but now play Starcraft II in my spare time. In Starcraft I play Protoss and am in Platinum League.
  • I earned my black belt in Taekwondo at the age of 11. It took me 5 years.
  • I listen to a lot of music, but mostly post-hardcore. Music is a big part of my life, and I spend nearly all of my free time listening to music regardless of what else I'm doing.
  • I don't watch T.V. at all.
  • I'm obsessed with bacon.

Listing my favourite websites is a difficult task, as I don't really use the internet to access websites often, but rather to interact with people who have similar interests. When I do go on my web browser, I frequent these pages.

A few years ago I remember I wanted to be an artist in the game industry. Over time I came to the realization that I was a very logical person, and much less artistic. Slowly, after much trial and error, I've finally settled on attempting to become a programmer in the game industry. I feel as though even if I don't end up in the game industry, these skills will easily transfer into any other programming tasks, and as I have a passion for gaming and a logical way of thinking, it's a good choice for me. For a while I also toyed with the idea of being a photographer or videographer. I love taking photos, and I own a dslr with a small collection of lenses as a result. In the end I decided that I enjoyed photography as a hobby, and wanted to keep it that way. I felt like looking at it as a job, as work, would ruin it for me. It was the same with videography. As much as I enjoy creating short films, I enjoy them because they're my work and there's no pressure involved if things don't work out. I wouldn't like to ruin that by taking it more seriously. I think programming is a good choice for me.

Over the summer I didn't do a lot. My family never goes on vacations. I live with my grandparents and they're not really up for travelling. I spent a lot of time sorting out the personal issues in my life to make sure I'd be able to focus on my work this year. I've come into this year feeling a lot more willing to work, and just enjoying school a lot more in general. Besides that, when I was bored I spent time playing games like Starcraft II and Team Fortress 2, called friends on Skype, and tried to educate myself a little in working with the Unreal Development Kit.

I don't believe there are any issues or concerns that might affect my success in this course. I plan to do my work as long as it's interesting and reasonable.
